Registration Information:

To sign up for one of our classes listed below, stop by our shop, or call us at 607-973-2885. Class fees must be paid in full at the time of registration and supply lists will be available when you register. We offer a discount of 15% for all class materials that are purchased at Wooly Minded. We only issue refunds if we need to cancel a class. For further information, please call and speak to Jean or Whitney.

CLASSES – FALL 2010
Knitting Basics

Complete novices will learn to how hold needles and yarn, cast on, make the knit and purl stitches, and bind off. Taking it at your own pace, you will start working on a small project, and gain the confidence to move on to bigger things. Lessons can be given almost any time – just call in to make an appointment.

Cost:  Individual – $15/1-hour session
Or come with a friend, a child or a parent – $10 each/1-hour session

Make Your Own Class

Have you forgotten everything you ever knew about knitting? Do you need some one-on-one help with a project? Do you want to learn the skills from a class but the times are inconvenient? Simply call in to make an appointment and we will do what we can to help.

Cost:  $15/1-hour session

Chunky Cable Hat

Chunky Cabled HatThis pattern from Misti Alpaca is an easy introduction to simple cables. If you can knit and purl you are ready for this!

The Big Felted Bag

The Big Felted BagThis class is designed for true beginners or those unsure of the basic skills. Over the 4 weeks you will learn to knit, purl, cast on, bind off, increase stitches, pick-up stitches, and how felting works. At the end of it you have a great bag to hold your next knitting project.

Dates:  Saturdays, Sept. 18, 25, Oct. 2, 9; 2:00 - 4:00 pm

Entrelac Scarf

Entrelac ScarfEntrelac is a cool technique that produces a woven-look fabric, and really is not as hard as it looks!

Sock Basics

Sock BasicsMake your first socks in this ever popular 3 week class while overcoming your fear of double pointed needles, turning heels and the Kitchener stitch. (Note that the classes are different lengths to accommodate the work required in each one.)

Felted Clogs - back by popular demand!

Felted ClogsThese felted clogs by Fiber Trends came in all sizes and make a great gift. They are fun to make for the adventurous, confident beginner. Once you have made one pair, you won’t be able to stop! You will learn how to follow a pattern, and add ‘short rows’ and ‘Wrap and Turn’ to your knitting vocabulary.

Beaded Cabled Mitts

Beaded Cabled MittsAnother great gift idea for intermediate knitters, these mitts are worked on double pointed needles and will introduce you to both cabling and beading.

A Fair Isle Christmas Stocking

Fair Isle Christmas StockingStart a family tradition with personalized, Fair Isle stockings this year. The stocking is knit in the round with a Fair Isle design on the leg and a standard sock foot. The name is embroidered in duplicate stitch once the whole thing is finished.
NB. Some homework is required before the start of class.

Everyone’s Favorite Hat

Everyone's Favorite HatYou know how to knit and purl, now learn how to knit in the round and decrease as you make this classic beanie. Choose from worsted, bulky or super bulky yarn to make a hat for everyone on your list.

Evening in Eden Shawl/Afghan

Evening in Eden ShawlLynda Gemmell of Cabin Fever rates her pattern for the enthusiastic beginner – with gusto! So let this be your introduction to lace knitting. The pattern can be used for almost any weight yarn from a fingering to a bulky, so pick some beautiful yarn and create a unique shawl or afghan.

Going Round in Circles!

This is a technique class where we will look at 3 ways to knit a small circumference: double pointed needles, 2 circular needles, and magic loop. There is no set project but if you have socks, mittens, or gloves that you want to work on, please bring them along.

Broomstick Lace Scarf

Broomstick Lace ScarfBroomstick Lace is an old, old technique worked with one huge knitting needle and a crochet hook. Intriqued? Come and learn this easy stitch. It will help if you can already work a double crochet stitch, but if not, we will show you that too.

It is important that you are comfortable with basic knitting techniques before taking any of the classes listed above. If you are unsure and feel you need to brush up on your skills before class, please check when registering and consider taking ‘Knitting Basics’ or ‘Make your own Class’ if necessary.
