To sign up for one of our classes listed below, stop by our shop, or call us at 607-973-2885. Class fees must be paid in full at the time of registration and supply lists will be available when you register. We offer a discount of 15% for all class materials that are purchased at Wooly Minded. We only issue refunds if we need to cancel a class. For further information, please call the store.
Knitting sweaters from published patterns can be frustrating. While patterns can inspire you, the sweaters knit from patterns rarely fit properly. Free yourself from the limitations of following a pattern by learning how to design your own sweater, from the swatch up. Based on Cheryl Brunette’s step-by-step “Sweater 101” system, we’ll learn how to think about knitting sweaters in a new way. We’ll start by thinking about the kind of sweater we want to wear, the kind of fabric we want to create, and the kind of fit and style that we want to design. We’ll learn how to calculate and create a picture pattern, based on body measurements and stitch gauge. We’ll also talk about design elements, making choices about stitch patterns, armhole shapes, necklines, edgings, and closures. Knit a sweater that fits, from your own unique design.
The classes run every other week to allow for knitting time. The cost includes the price of the workbook.

This is a 4 session class for true beginners or anyone who wants a complete refresher course. You will learn to knit and purl, increase and decrease stitches, work on a circular needle and double pointed needles. At the end of the 4 weeks you will have completed a hat and a pair of mittens, and be ready to face almost any knitting challenge that comes your way!

This beautiful cowl is worked in a version of mosaic stitch - a great technique that looks complicated, but really isn’t. The designs use 2 colors but you will only be using one color in any row. Intrigued? Come and try it.

The Dahlia Cardigan is taken from the Fall 2011 Interweave Knits magazine and is described as a ‘uniquely constructed cardigan with wrapped front and an eye-catching back lace panel. Fun to knit and wear.’ This is not so much a class as an opportunity to get together with others making the cardigan, and to learn from each other. We will meet alternate Tuesday evenings until we are done. Please call for more information and to reserve your place.

Make your first socks in this ever popular 3 week class while overcoming your fear of double pointed needles, turning heels and the Kitchener stitch. If you have completed Knitting 101, you may continue on with this class.

‘Knotted Slippers are a delicate little foot covering to help feet transition into spring’. This is an elegant way to practice the kitchener stitch – you will soon be an expert!

This is an old pattern found in many versions. Our sample and pattern is a baby blanket, but the component block may be made from any thickness yarn to create any size blanket or even cushion. The block itself is created on the diagonal and features a raised leaf design cunningly formed with nothing more than carefully placed increases and decreases. Each block is quick to make.

This classic pattern from Elizabeth Zimmerman is a piece of true knitting magic. EZ had a style all her own and is revered by many knitters. The Surprise Jacket is the perfect introduction to her work – not to mention cute! Once you have made the first one you will be eager to make more – even in adult sizes.

It is important that you are comfortable with basic knitting techniques before taking any of the classes listed above. If you are unsure and feel you need to brush up on your skills before class, please check when registering and consider taking 'Knitting Basics' or 'Make your own Class' if necessary.
Complete novices will learn to how hold needles and yarn, cast on, make the knit and purl stitches, and bind off. Taking it at your own pace, you will start working on a small project, and gain the confidence to move on to bigger things. Lessons can be given almost any time – just call in to make an appointment.
Cost: Individual – $15/1-hour session
Or come with a friend, a child or a parent – $10 each/1-hour session
